Rajnath Singh leading in Lucknow Lok Sabha seat by 61695 votes

New Delhi: Defence Minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh is leading in the Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of 61695 votes. Singh is contesting against Ravidas Mehrotra of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Sarwar Malik of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Rajnath Singh has been the Member of Parliament (MP) from Lucknow since 2014. He served as the 29th Defence Minister in Narendra Modi’s second term. From 2000 to 2002, he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. According to MyNeta, Singh declared assets worth around Rs 5 crore.

Singh first became an MP from the Rajya Sabha in 1994, serving three terms. He has been a Lok Sabha member since 2014 when Modi first became Prime Minister. Singh has held important portfolios like Road Transport and Highways, Agriculture, Defence, and Home Affairs.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh is the BJP candidate from the Lucknow constituency. There are ten candidates contesting from Lucknow. Singh, aged 72, is a post-graduate. According to his election affidavit, his profession includes Minister Salary, Pension, and Agriculture. Singh’s total declared assets are Rs 7.4 crore, with no liabilities and no criminal cases against him.

As of now, Singh’s closest rival, Ravidas Mehrotra of the SP, is trailing.The voters of Lucknow have supported BJP candidates for the past 33 years, with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee representing the seat from 1991 to 2004. In 2009, BJP’s Lal Ji Tandon won the seat, followed by Rajnath Singh in 2014 and 2019.

Rajnath Singh has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1964. He joined politics in 1974 and became a BJP member in 1980. He has held several key positions, including Uttar Pradesh’s Education Minister and BJP’s state president.

In Narendra Modi’s first term, Singh was the Union Home Minister and is now the Defence Minister. The Lucknow constituency went to the polls on May 20, with a voter turnout of 52.23%. The BJP is seeking a third term at the Centre with Modi as Prime Minister.
