Rajgir to Host Hero Asia Cup 2025 as Hockey India Signs MoU

New Delhi: Hero Asia Cup 2025 is set to take place in Rajgir, Bihar, marking a significant milestone in the state’s growing sports infrastructure. Hockey India and the Bihar State Sports Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, officially confirming the event. The tournament will be played from 29th August to 7th September at the newly developed Rajgir Hockey Stadium.

This international tournament brings global attention to Rajgir, which has rapidly emerged as a major sporting destination in India. This will be the second international hockey tournament hosted by Rajgir, following the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in November 2024, where India emerged victorious. The upcoming event further strengthens Bihar’s presence on the international hockey map.

Top Teams in Action

The 12th edition of the prestigious tournament will witness participation from eight teams. Six teams—India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia—have already secured their places, while the remaining two teams will qualify through the AHF Cup.

South Korea is the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won five titles in 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013, and 2022. India and Pakistan follow with three titles each. India claimed victories in 2003, 2007, and 2017, while Pakistan triumphed in 1982, 1985, and 1989.

Hero Asia Cup Rajgir Bihar 2025 holds immense significance as it serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, scheduled to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands. The winner of this tournament will secure a direct berth in the World Cup, making the competition even more intense.
