JAIPUR: In a remarkable turn of events, Bhajanlal Sharma’s neighbours in Rajasthan are celebrating his recent appointment as the Chief Minister of the state. Expressing their astonishment, many residents revealed their disbelief that someone from their community could ascend to such a prestigious position.
A young student in her early twenties exclaimed, “I could not believe my own eyes when I saw Bhajan become the CM of the state. I would never have believed that somebody from our society would become a CM.” She reminisced about Sharma’s previous role as the society secretary, describing him as a helpful person who consistently went out of his way to assist others.
However, contrasting views emerged among some female neighbours, who believed that Bhajanlal Sharma’s wife, Renu Sharma, would have been a more fitting candidate for the post. One person remarked, “Renu is much better than him. We used to practice yoga and attend dance classes together. I would like to say that the fact that Bhajanlal has become CM, is because of us.”
To emphasise their support, enthusiastic female supporters gathered on the streets, shouting slogans of “BJP zindabad” when news of his victory from Sanganer reached them. Recounting the celebration, a neighbour stated, “When he was selected as the CM, we were dancing and celebrating, screaming BJP zindabad. We did something similar when he won from Sanganer, coining the slogan, ‘Humara CM kaisa ho? Bhajanlal jaisa ho! (Who should our CM be like? He should be like Bhajanlal).'”

The General Secretary of the Ridhi Sidhi Mahila Mandal revealed her active involvement in supporting Bhajanlal’s campaign, visiting numerous poll booths alongside Renu. However, she noted the challenge of reaching out to Renu after the election due to her busy schedule.
With Bhajanlal’s elevation to the CM post, the neighbours expressed their desire to “one day” visit and reside at the CM residence. Bhajanlal secured victory from the Sanganer seat with over 48,081 votes, defeating Congress’ Pushpendra Bhardwaj.
