Rajasthan Chief minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated 512 new Indira Rasois (Indira Kitchens) in a function in Jodhpur on Sunday. With this, there is a total of 870 Indira Rasois in Rajasthan, with 358 Indira Rasois operating at present.
Indira Rasoi Yojna was inaugurated from Sojati Gate, the old Municipal Corporation office in Jodhpur.
Gehlot launched Indira Rasoi Yojna on August 20, 2020, through 358 Indira Rasoi in 213 urban bodies by giving shape to the concept of Koi Bhukha Na Soy (No One Should Sleep Hungry) in the state. One meal is served for ₹8 in these kitchens
For the implementation and monitoring of the scheme, more than 300 local service organizations or NGOs have been selected for the operation of the kitchen by the District Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee constituted under the chairmanship of the District Collector.
The needy are given pure and nutritious local dishes twice (afternoon and night) a day. Under the scheme, the grant to the kitchen operators has been increased from ₹12 per plate to ₹17 per plate from January 1, 2022.
A provision has been made to give an advance of ₹50,000/- per kitchen to the kitchen operators for the day-to-day work like electricity, water, internet bills, kitchen furnishings and repairs etc.
Under the scheme, with the prior permission of the District Level Coordination Committee, there is a provision for the distribution of food by creating an extension counter. So far, 7.01 crore food plates have been served under the scheme, which is 72.32 per cent of the target. Every year, with the operation of 870 kitchens, 13.81 crore food thalis are expected to be served.
Around 358 Indira Rasoi’s were functioning in the state, which was increased to 1000 in the last budget announcement, for which ₹250 crore financial announcement was also made for the financial year 2022-23.
