NEW DELHI: Some organisers of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s town hall in New York, US next week are associated with Pakistan-based terrorist outfits and the Islamic country’s deep state.
As per the misinformation debunker Disinfo Lab, at least two persons – Tanzeem Ansari and Jawad Ahmed who are allegedly involved in mobilising support and coordinating for Gandhi’s June 4 interaction with members of Indian diaspora in New York City are known for their anti-India stance and have supported terrorism in Kashmir.
Tanzeem Ansari serves as the Amir of the outreach committee of the Muslim Community of New Jersey (MCNJ) which is led by Pakistan-born Imaam Jawad Ahmed, who also serves as the project director of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).
The Google Doc page throws up names of coordinators for Gandhi’s New York event.
“ICNA is a radical Islamist organization, associated with Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), and tows Pakistan’s line against India and has linkages with radical and terror organizations. They glorify terrorists such as Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin for his “cause of separation of Kashmir from India,” Disinfo Lab claimed.

Another coordinator, Mohammed Aslam, is a member of the Muslim Center of Greater Princeton (MCGP), which is closely associated with ICNA. It is worth noting that the founder of the banned radical group SIMI was also an ICNA member. Fronts such as Justice For All and HhRD operate under the umbrella of ICNA and JeI.

Minhaj Khan, who also said he was coordinating for the event, has ties to the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), an anti-India lobbying group which has consistently targeted India on various issues, including human rights and religious freedom, often sharing fake news to fuel communal unrest within India.
It is not clear if the disqualified lawmaker is aware of their true identities or association with his public event.
The Indian Overseas Congress, USA (IOCUSA), has strongly refuted the allegations surrounding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing visit to the United States, labeling them as a deliberate “misinformation campaign” aimed at tarnishing the significance of his trip.
“We consider all these reactions and fake news as part of a concentrated effort by vested interests to diminish Gandhi’s tour in the U.S. and are very much part of the continuing efforts to besmirch him in any way possible,” IOCUSA stated.
In 2013-14 when Dr Manmohan Singh government was in power, IAMC engaged a US lobbying firm, paying them USD 55,000 to lobby against India at the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).

IAMC executive director Rasheed Ahmed is also associated with another Jamaat front, the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA), which exploited India’s goodwill and raised millions during peak Covid in the name of helping India and siphoned off all the money, claimed Disinfo Lab.
IMANA has allegedly been maintaining links with both retired officials of Pakistani armed forces and terrorist groups such as LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen, showcasing a concerning spectrum of connections, it said.
These fronts and organization have been often accused of pursuing anti-India activities for a long time to further Pakistan’s agenda.
