NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has announced that the theme for the upcoming Republic Day Parade 2025 will be ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India: Heritage and Development) and a total of 15 states and Union Territories have been selected to present their tableaux on Kartavya Path. These states and UTs include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadar Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
In addition to the states and UTs, 11 Union government ministries and departments have also been selected to showcase their tableaux during the 2025 Republic Day celebrations. These include the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, participating for the first time since its establishment as a separate ministry, and the Department of Rural Development, participating for the first time in 15 years.

Other participating ministries and departments are the Department of Financial Services, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Indian Coast Guard, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Earth Sciences (IMD), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (CPWD), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Hence, Delhi is again not in the list for tableau list and this has been a hot topic these days. Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal criticized the central government after Delhi’s proposed tableau was not selected for the Republic Day parade for the fourth consecutive year. Kejriwal questioned the exclusion, stating that Delhi, as the capital, should be represented every year. Kejriwal stated “Why do they hate the people of Delhi so much? Delhi is the capital of India and the tableau of Delhi should participate every year in the 26th January parade. For the last four years, the tableau of Delhi has not been allowed to participate in the parade. What kind of politics is this? Why should the people of Delhi vote for them?”
The BJP responded, saying the selection is made by a designated committee and accused AAP of diverting attention from real issues ahead of the 2025 Delhi assembly elections.

The Ministry of Defence employs a consultative process to determine the themes and selection of tableaux. Earlier this year, a senior-level meeting was held to discuss ways to improve the quality of tableaux. The theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ was decided based on suggestions from states and UTs.
The tableaux proposals from various states, UTs, and central ministries are evaluated by an Expert Committee comprising eminent personalities from the fields of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography. The selection criteria include conceptual uniqueness, creative expression, and a balance between heritage (Virasat) and development (Vikas).
The selected tableaux will showcase India’s diverse strengths and its evolving cultural inclusiveness, marching into a glorious future. All states and UTs, regardless of their selection for Kartavya Path, are invited to display their tableaux during Bharat Parv at Red Fort from January 26-31, 2025.
