MUMBAI: Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush has taken the box office by storm, selling an astounding 18.5 lakh tickets during its first weekend at PVR-INOX cinemas across India.
Despite facing controversies and criticism, the epic film directed by Om Raut has emerged as a powerhouse, grossing an impressive ₹340 crore worldwide – surpassed expectations to breach the record set by Pathaan earlier this year.
Released on June 16, the movie’s performance has been particularly noteworthy in India, where it earned over ₹65 crores net.
Expressing delight at the overwhelming response to Adipurush, PVR-INOX executive director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli said, “We are delighted with the massive response received for Adipurush over its first weekend, with more than 18.5 lakh tickets sold at PVR INOX cinemas across the country, which is extremely heartening to see.

“We are certain that it will continue to set newer benchmarks in the weeks to come. Our heartiest congratulations to the director, producers, and the entire team for making a film that has resonated so well with the Indian audiences,” he further said.
Adipurush’s remarkable achievement of reaching the ₹300 crores milestone within three days places it second only to Pathaan in terms of box office success this year. While Pathaan garnered ₹313 crores gross worldwide in its opening weekend, the Prabhas-starrer surpassed that figure, amassing ₹340 crores.
These impressive figures come in the face of intense criticism and controversy surrounding certain dialogues in the film. In response, the makers have announced to remove certain dialogues that had offended sentiments.

In a tweet, dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla defended the film, explaining that sentiments were hurt over “five lines” out of the more than 4,000 lines he wrote for the movie.
Adipurush, co-produced by Om Raut, Rajesh Nair, Prasad Sutar, Pramod, Vamsi, and Bhushan Kumar, has also made a significant impact internationally.
Its Telugu version alone generated ₹13.4 crores in the US market during the first weekend, while the Hindi version earned ₹7.1 crores.
