NEW DELHI: Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an official invitation to visit India from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with plans for the visit to be finalized in early 2025. Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov confirmed the invitation during a briefing, noting that the two leaders have an established understanding to meet annually.
“Our leaders have an agreement to hold meetings once a year. This time, it’s our turn,” Ushakov said. He emphasized that Russia had received the invitation from Prime Minister Modi and would “certainly consider it positively.” Ushakov further added that the tentative dates for the visit would be determined early next year.

Putin and Modi maintain a close working relationship, with regular communication, including telephone calls every couple of months. The two leaders also meet in person on several occasions, particularly during international events. In July, Prime Minister Modi visited Moscow for the 22nd Russia-India summit, where he engaged in discussions with President Putin. In October, Modi attended the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The upcoming visit is expected to further cement the strategic partnership between India and Russia, which has long been rooted in cooperation across various sectors, including defense, energy, and trade. Both countries are keen to deepen their ties amidst shifting global dynamics and changing geopolitical landscapes.
