Water resource management also took center stage during the discussions. Officials reported that the water levels at key dams, including Bhakra, Pong, and Ranjit Sagar, are notably lower compared to last year, easing initial concerns about potential overflow during heavy rains. Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar assured that essential measures such as the procurement and strategic placement of 8.5 lakh EC bags near vulnerable points have been completed to mitigate flood risks effectively.

The Deputy Commissioners were further directed to oversee comprehensive preparations, including the cleaning of sewerage systems in urban areas and ensuring the availability of generators and de-watering pumps at critical water pumping stations. Coordination with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was also stressed to minimize electricity disruptions during adverse weather conditions.

In readiness for any emergency scenarios, evacuation plans have been finalized, with flood control rooms established across all districts. Shelter arrangements for both humans and animals have been meticulously identified to provide swift relief in case of displacement.

Chief Secretary Verma affirmed the commitment of the entire state machinery to operate tirelessly throughout the monsoon period, ensuring public safety and convenience remain top priorities. He reiterated that continuous communication with local populations and vigilant monitoring of flood-prone areas will be maintained to promptly address any emerging challenges.

With these robust measures in place, Punjab aims to navigate the monsoon season with heightened vigilance and readiness, safeguarding communities against potential flood threats while striving to minimize disruption to daily life.
