Punjab Police bust Lashkar terror module, arrests 2 J&K men

Punjab Police and central agencies have arrested two terrorists of a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror module in Jammu and Kashmir. Weapons and explosives were also recovered.

SRINAGAR: Punjab Police and central agencies have arrested two terrorists of a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror module in Jammu and Kashmir. Weapons and explosives were also recovered.

In a joint operation with central agencies, the state Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of the Punjab Police busted the LeT module with the arrest of two of its members based in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Punjab Police recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a timer switch, eight detonators, four batteries, two hand-grenades, and a pistol with its two magazines and 24 cartridges from the two accused.

Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the terror module was handled by Firdaus Ahmed Bhat, an active member of the LeT.

The arrest of the two LeT terrorists is a major breakthrough for the security forces in Punjab. It comes at a time when the state is on high alert due to the ongoing threat of terrorism.

The police are investigating the links of the arrested terrorists to other LeT modules in Punjab and J&K. They are also trying to ascertain the target of the planned terror attack.
