NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann instructed the police to intensify the crusade against the drug menace in the state to turn it into a drug-free state, on Tuesday.
While chairing a meeting of Police Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police, Mann directed them to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, stating that the officials had already snapped the supply line of drugs with the big drug peddlers being arrested. The Punjab CM emphasised further continuation of the campaign to take action against the presence of drugs at the grassroots level.
Mann added that the Police should expedite the process of properties of drug dealers acquired through drug money while adding that the officials should work without any sort of pressure.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader vowed to remove the “curse of the drug menace” from Punjab forever.
The CM emphasised on the discharge of duties with efficiency to maintain law and order, without leaving any stone unturned, to ensure that the most severe action must be taken against any who break the law. “The severest of severe action must be taken against organised crime and thrust must be laid to check and solve the cases of extortion and ransom,” said Mann.
The Punjab CM further directed the SSPs to undertake field visits to resolve the issues of the public by being one among them. Mann said, “This will instill a sense of confidence amongst the people which will be helpful to the police in solving matters related to the general public.”
The Chief Minister also asked the officers to enhance vigil in the crowded areas especially the markets across the state. He said that it is need of the hour to preserve the “hard-earned peace of the state” by nabbing the ones who are guilty of disturbing the peace in the state. He also added that the state would not provide support to vigilantes, saying, “No one should be allowed to take the law in their hands and such elements should be dealt with sternly.”
The Chief Minister also asked the officers to check the menace of illegal mining, if any, in the areas under their jurisdiction. He added that serious and exemplary action would be taken against any who would be found indulging in the act.
Mann also added that the lackadaisical attitude of the jail staff is frowned upon and will be “brought to book” for such a lapse, if any further report surfaced stating the sue of mobile phones in jails.
