NEW DELHI: Amid nationwide outrage over NEET results being released earlier on June 4, with many other issues Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked the Modi-led BJP government for ‘sacrificing’ the dreams of youth on the altar of a corrupt examination system.

In a tweet posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), she wrote, “As soon as the new BJP government took oath, it began attacking the dreams of the youth again. The Education Minister’s arrogant response regarding the irregularities in the NEET exam results completely ignores the cries of 24 lakh students and their parents. Doesn’t the Education Minister see the facts available in the public domain?”

“The question is, whom does the government want to save in the system by ignoring lakhs of youth and their parents?” She added.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on June 14 has also launched an attack on X, “The Modi government has crushed the aspirations of 24 lakh youth.”

The NEET issue is expected to be a priority during the first parliamentary session after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for June 24. Kharge has emphasized that the country’s discontent on this matter will resonate strongly within Parliament.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Digvijay Singh has also called for an investigation into the irregularities, insisting that the entire exam should be cancelled.

Taking a dig at the center, Singh said that students from Odisha, Karnataka, and Jharkhand chose Gujarat as their exam center. He also claimed that the paper was leaked on the instant messaging platform Telegram a day before the scheduled exam.

“Despite evidence of this, why did the NTA deny any wrongdoing? Why did the government not take cognizance of the allegations of students paying a bribe of ₹20 to 25 lakhs through an international education consultant in Gujarat? Why were Hindi medium students given English medium question papers at an examination centre in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan? The Hon’ble Supreme Court has raised questions on the sanctity of NEET and today ordered the re-examination of 1563 students who got grace marks on June 23, 2024. This will not benefit those students who could not go to court,” he added.

The NEET pre-medical entrance exam, conducted on May 5 by the National Testing Agency (NTA) at 4,750 centres for nearly 24 lakh students, is facing scrutiny due to allegations of leaked papers and controversial grace marks. The scrutiny stems from the unexpected occurrence where 67 students achieved a flawless score of 720.
