NEW DELHI: In a recent podcast, Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Shiv Sena, caused a stir when she named Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the “greatest leader in the world.” When asked about her favourite leader, she did not mention Bal Thackeray, the party’s founder, or Uddhav Thackeray, the current leader.

Her comments have raised eyebrows among political circles, especially among Shiv Sena supporters who expect their representatives to honour the party’s legacy. By leaving out the names of the Thackerays, Chaturvedi sparked discussions about loyalty and the changing identity of the Shiv Sena in today’s political landscape.

A social media user reacted by quote-tweeting Chaturvedi’s post. They wrote, “This is Priyanka Chaturvedi. Uddhav Thackeray recruited all the hardworking and senior leaders of the party and made them Rajya Sabha MPs from Shiv Sena. Yesterday, she was asked in a podcast who is your favourite leader. She neither took the name of Bala Saheb nor Uddhav Thackeray.” The user criticized her for calling Modi a “great leader” without acknowledging the party’s key figures.

Chaturvedi replied to the user, saying, “This is Anil Yadav. These are two percent ‘journalists’! That’s all I wanted to say.” Her response highlights the tension around her comments and reflects the ongoing discourse on media and politics.

Analysts suggest that her remarks show a trend among some politicians who focus more on national figures than on local leaders. This shift raises concerns about the party’s core values and principles. As Shiv Sena deals with internal divisions and changing allegiances, Chaturvedi’s comments could signal a move toward national leadership, which might alienate some traditional supporters.

Reactions to her statements have varied, with some party members expressing disappointment over her failure to recognize foundational leaders. Others view her comments as a practical approach in a rapidly changing political environment.

As the discussion continues, the implications of Chaturvedi’s remarks for Shiv Sena’s unity and identity remain to be seen. Recognizing past leaders is likely to be a key topic as the party looks to the future.
