Priyanka Chaturvedi rebukes social media user for insulting RS chair

NEW DELHI:  Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has recently called out an X (formerly Twitter) user for making derogatory remarks about the Chair of the Rajya Sabha and spreading misinformation.

In a series of posts reverting to the user, Chaturvedi highlighted the offensive comments made by the person with the username @Mr Sinha.

In a tweet shared with the post, the user tweeted a picture of Chaturvedi who is seen presiding over the Rajya Sabha during the budget session, and wrote, “The most embarrassing moment for the speaker chair, what a fall, how did she reach there?”

Chaturvedi, finding this offensive, sexist and insulting chose to revert the user back and on Friday, July 26 Chaturvedi sought to move a breach of privilege motion against the user.

She wrote, reverting to the user sharing his tweet, “Look at their meltdown. However, this tweet is more about the breach of parliament privilege and not just sexist but also accusing the Hon. VP of India who is the Chairman of the house.”

According to parliamentary regulations, in the absence of the Vice President of India, who also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the deputy Chairman or a panel of vice chairpersons is responsible for presiding over the sessions.

She added, “I will request Hon. Chairman to allow the breach of privilege motion against PawPaw brigade champ here who has no idea that RS has a chairperson and not a speaker.”

This series didn’t end here, in one other tweet he also accused Chaturvedi of attempting to humiliate Pune MP Dr. Medha Vishram Kulkarni for speaking in Marathi instead of English.

Chaturvedi responded to that tweet as well, calling such users a “Paw-Paw brigade”. She wrote, “This pawpaw champ bhakt is truly having a meltdown of the worst kind. Also, paw-paw champ, Dr Medha Kulkarni and Rajni Patil ji both spoke in Marathi and without interruption barring when her ally sitting in the front row had a hissy fit and asked her to sit down multiple times so that he could be disrespectful to the chair.”

Dr Medha Kulkarni also addressed the issue, sharing a video of her speech to clarify that Chaturvedi did not interrupt her and that she acknowledged her use of Marathi. “Center’s huge help to Maharashtra, take this evidence! Opponents are alleging that the central government has not given anything to Maharashtra. Commented today during the debate in the Rajya Sabha about the funds received by Maharashtra for various development works and projects in this year’s budget and the last 10 years and refuted the opposition’s allegations!” Kulkarni tweeted.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra, was elected to the Upper House in 2020 on the Shiv Sena (undivided) ticket. She serves as the deputy leader and spokesperson of Shiv Sena (UBT) and being a member of this panel, she was in charge during the session.
