NEW DELHI: In the wake of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing, Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena UBT) has expressed strong disapproval of the government’s actions and treatment of UPA era head of the state during his tenure.
Chaturvedi’s comments on X also sparked a conversation about the legacy of the former Prime Minister and the current government’s response to his death.
This cabinet led by the PM may have words to express their grief on the passing of Dr MMS but their words and action against him will never be forgotten- the vilification, the shameful charges, the character assassination and the hounding of a great man.

The Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP, who had defected to Uddhav Thackeray faction from Congress in 2019, wrote, “This cabinet led by the PM may have words to express their grief on the passing of Dr MMS but their words and action against him will never be forgotten- the vilification, the shameful charges, the character assassination and the hounding of a great man.”

The MP further added, “Rest what they say tomorrow will be mere hypocrisy. History will judge them for their conduct for sure.” This remark points to the perceived insincerity in the government’s expressions of grief, suggesting that their previous actions against Dr. Singh overshadow any current gestures of sympathy. Chaturvedi’s comments reflect the frustration within the opposition about the treatment of one of India’s most respected leaders during his time in office.
Singh, known for his quiet leadership and economic reforms, was often the target of harsh criticism from the ruling party, particularly during the years following his tenure as Prime Minister. His government faced numerous challenges, including accusations of corruption and policy failures, many of which were politically charged. Despite these challenges, Singh’s legacy as a reformist leader remains intact, particularly in the realms of economic growth and global diplomacy.

Chaturvedi’s remarks serve as a reminder of the ongoing political polarization in India, where the actions of past leaders are often viewed through the lens of contemporary politics. As Singh’s contributions to the nation are mourned, his critics and supporters alike continue to debate his place in India’s political history.
