Prevent, treat, reverse: Dr Rajkumar’s approach to chronic diseases

NEW DELHI: Disease is any altered functioning of body organs and disease reversal is a concept that promotes health while focusing on adopting healthy lifestyles to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic conditions caused by lifestyle choices, behaviors, and environmental factors. This concept aims to restore optimal bodily function by addressing the root causes of disease rather than merely managing symptoms.

Dr J.S. Rajkumar, founder of the Lifeline Group of Hospitals who himself believes in the concept told The New Indian. “Disease reversal can resolve functional issues of the body, but it cannot treat structural or anatomical problems, however, it can reverse conditions like diabetes, manage blood pressure, combat obesity, and even slow down ageing.”

This holistic concept integrates a foundational commitment to prevention with a systematic approach to addressing the underlying causes of premature disease, disability, and death.

Dr. Rajkumar elaborates: “Disease reversal brings about subtle but profound changes in the body. It works on two levels: one being hormonal. For instance, as you age, the levels of essential hormones and chemicals in your body decline. By following time-tested methods, we can restore these levels to their optimal state.”

The practice, favoured by billionaires and celebrities, is often associated with their ability to reverse ageing and maintain a vibrant, healthy lifestyle. Dr. Rajkumar highlights the importance of diet in this process.

“Everything starts with diet—you cannot overlook it. Many people, especially the affluent and celebrities, are transforming their dietary habits, with some even turning vegan. I often recommend what I call ‘metabolic surgery’—not a literal surgery, but a metaphor for transforming one’s metabolism through dietary changes.”

When asked whether disease reversal aligns with Ayurveda, Dr Rajkumar described it as a fusion of various approaches. “Ultimately, it’s about the patient, not the doctor. Whatever works best for the individual should be prioritized.”

He concluded by emphasizing the interconnected nature of bodily functions: “In disease reversal, we address each aspect systematically because every function in the body is interdependent. It’s about restoring balance, one step at a time.”

This approach offers a transformative path to health and vitality, with a focus on prevention and a patient-centred methodology.
