NEW DELHI: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will break ranks with the opposition as they pledged their support to NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu in the Presidential elections.
Announcing the decision, JMM president Shibu Soren said, “For the first time since independence there is a chance that a tribal woman has a chance to become the President of the country. Hence, the party has decided to vote for Draupadi Murmu in the upcoming Presidential elections.”
Incidentally, the announcement came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Deoghar and inaugurated the airport there. PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various developmental projects worth more than Rs 16,000 crores in Deoghar.
The decision was on expected lines as it was speculated that JMM being a party from the tribal dominated Jharkhand will find it difficult to ignore Murmu.
