Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said he would “rather die” than join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He made the statement while speaking to reporters on the 75th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated by Nathuram Godse.
He said, “Who killed Gandhi? And Why? He (Gandhi) was trying to protect everyone including Muslims. Can we simply forget when you commit a murder? Today is the day when he (Gandhi) was killed. Can the new generation forget this? Everybody must remember, even if these people want to make us forget it, or provoke violence.”
"I'd rather die than ally with BJP," says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after BJP passed a resolution to “never align with JDU again” at exec meet on Sunday.

He further said, “I’d rather die but not join hands with them (BJP), know this very clearly. Understand this, everything else is bogus!”
Reacting to BJP’s statement that he has become a liability in politics, he said that the statement was only indicative of how worried the BJP was about their electoral prospects in Bihar.
“These people are worried, that’s why they say such things while I’m busy with my work. They’ve come to know, they will not get anything here.” Adding he said, “BJP is busy doing self-promotion and advertisement but it’s not going to yield any results.”
The Chief Minister scoffed at the BJP’s claim that it would win 36 out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar in the national election next year. He said, “The citizens of Bihar will decide this. This is bogus talk! They’re not going to score anything.”
His statement came after BJP passed a resolution of never aligning with JDU again at BJP state executive meet held in Darbhanga on Sunday. BJP’s state co-in charge Vinod Tawde told reporters that the party executive passed the resolution “never align with Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar again” at the two-day BJP state executive meeting that concluded in Darbhanga.
On Sunday, BJP’s state co-in charge Vinod Tawde informed that the party passed a resolution to “never align with Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar again” at the two-day BJP state executive meeting that concluded in Darbhanga. Former Deputy CM Sushil Modi said that Nitish Kumar was able to win 43 seats in the 2020 assembly elections because BJP had put all its strength behind him. “Nitish Kumar is a liability for any party he aligns with. He has no ability to get votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself came to Bihar and campaigned for Nitish Kumar’s party. Otherwise they would not have been able to win even 15 seats. Now Nitish Kumar should stay with RJD or go with some other party. He will drown that party too. BJP is happy that he left and went away.”
