PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention tomorrow
Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention tomorrow, January 9.
The PBD Convention will feature the President of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, as the chief guest and the President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, as a special guest of honour.
“Looking forward to being in the vibrant city of Indore tomorrow, 9th January to mark Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. This is a great opportunity to deepen the connect with our diaspora, which has distinguished itself globally,” PM Modi tweeted.
A flagship event of the government of India, the PBD convention provides an important platform to engage and connect with overseas Indians. It also provides a platform for the diaspora to interact with each other.
PM Modi will also inaugurate the first-ever digital PBD exhibition on the theme ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Contribution of Diaspora in Indian Freedom Struggle’. The exhibition aims to highlight the contribution of the Indian diaspora to India’s independence.
A special town hall will also be held to discuss India’s current G20 presidency. The government will also release a commemorative postal stamp – ‘Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen’ – to underline the importance of safe, legal, orderly and skilled migration.
On Tuesday, January 10, President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2023. President Murmu will also preside over the valedictory session.
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards are conferred on select Indian diaspora members to recognise their achievements and honour their contributions to various fields, both in India and abroad.
The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organised in partnership with the Madhya Pradesh Government in Indore. The theme of this PBD Convention is Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal. Over 3,500 diaspora members from nearly 70 different countries have registered for the PBD Convention.
On Sunday, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was inaugurated in Indore by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Indian-origin MP from Australia Zaneta Mascarenhas, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
