A five-member delegation from the National Conference (NC), led by Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, met with the ECI to urge early assembly elections in the area.

“We are here today to meet with the ECI. It is positive that the electoral body has come to hear us, and we are optimistic that the right decision will be made now,” Wani told reporters, adding, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting for an elected government for the past ten years.”

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) also met with the Election Commission of India to inform them of the challenges faced by people at the grassroots level in the absence of an elected government. “We presented our demand to the ECI, urging them to hold Assembly elections without further delay,” said PDP senior leader Asiya Naqash.

Speaking to reporters, BJP senior leader R S Pathania expressed hope that free and fair elections would be conducted with a record voter turnout, allowing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to elect their government. “We are hopeful that the election dates will be announced soon and that the people of J&K will be allowed to decide their future,” he said.

BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi emphasized that their party has always advocated for early assembly polls in the region and that the BJP is fully prepared on the ground.

“We want Assembly elections to be held as soon as possible. The BJP is fully ready for the elections. However, we have certain concerns regarding security and the scheduling of the elections,” Sethi stated.
