NEW DELHI: On Tuesday a police team was attacked by some unknown assailants in Patna, Bihar. In the attack, Sub-Inspector Ranjeet Kumar Yadav and three other personnel got injured. The assailants also targeted the police jeep, causing damage.
The entire incident unfolded in the Khaspur area under Maner police station. The dispute originated three days ago when a disagreement arose between Jai Kumar Nirala, the husband of the former head of a Dalit family, and another individual. Although the matter had seemingly been resolved through mutual agreement, tensions escalated suddenly on Tuesday evening.

Residents promptly alerted the Maner police through the emergency number 112. SI Ranjeet Kumar Yadav, accompanied by a police contingent, swiftly arrived at the scene. According to police accounts, upon their presence, supporters of Jai Kumar Nirala launched an attack on the residence of Ramnandan Chaudhary, a member of the opposing faction. When the police intervened to defuse the situation, they were met with aggression.
ASP Abhinav Dheeman provided details, stating that around 7 PM on Tuesday, Shriramnath Chaudhary reported an ongoing physical altercation between the current village head, Budhan Yadav, and the former head, Priyanka Kumari’s husband, Jai Kumar Nirala. Approximately 40-50 individuals from both sides were engaged in stone-pelting. In response, SI Ranjeet Kumar and the police force, equipped with weapons and vehicles, rushed to the scene.

As events unfolded, the former village head’s husband, Jai Kumar Nirala, and his supporters assaulted the police team. SI Ranjeet Kumar and three Home Guard personnel sustained injuries in the attack. The assailants reportedly tore uniforms and damaged the police vehicle. The police took swift action, arresting five individuals, including Jai Kumar Nirala, Sebu Yadav, Harendra Kumar, Nishant Kumar, and Sumeru Yadav, for further interrogation.
According to ASP Abhinav Dheeman, a preliminary investigation has been initiated, and subsequent actions will be taken accordingly.
