NEW DELHI: A team of MCD and Delhi Police personnel were attacked by a Muslim mob when they went to demolish an illegal construction in Y Block, Mangolpuri, in outer Delhi.

The New Indian accessed a video showing a large Muslim mob gathered at the spot, hurling bricks at the police. Due to the continuous ruckus, the team of Delhi Police and MCD had to return without demolishing the illegal construction.

Media personnel who went to cover the incident were also misbehaved with and attacked by the mob. A source claimed that the person who threw the brick had reportedly recently set up an illegal cart on the road for Rs 20,000.

“The MCD team went to Y Block, Mangolpuri, in full force. The police team was assisting them when they were attacked. After completing half of their operation, the MCD team returned,” a police official said, requesting anonymity.

“There was a wall and related illegal construction which were demolished,” said the DCP. He also said he was not aware of the brick-throwing incident at the police. “We will look into this too,” he said.

Extra police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incidents.
