New Delhi, 13 Feb : Prime Minister Narendra Modi set off for the United States on Wednesday after wrapping up his two-day trip to France, where he co-led the Artificial Intelligence Policy Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders engaged in extensive discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Before departing from Marseille, PM Modi and President Macron exchanged a warm embrace at the airport, underscoring the camaraderie between the two nations.
Modi will be the fourth global leader to visit US President Donald Trump since his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States in January.
Within the first few weeks of his second term at the White House, Trump has already hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
During his visit, PM Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with President Trump on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in both restricted and expanded formats.
The Indian Prime Minister will be staying at Blair House, the official guest residence of the US President, situated directly opposite the White House. The historic guesthouse has previously hosted notable figures such as Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II.
According to reports, PM Modi’s schedule includes six bilateral meetings upon his arrival in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening, culminating in his discussions with President Trump at the White House at 4 PM IST on Thursday.
The visit will conclude with a private dinner hosted by President Trump, following which both leaders are expected to address the media from the Oval Office.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized the visit’s strategic importance, noting that an invitation within just three weeks of the new administration assuming office highlights the growing significance of the India-US partnership.
Modi’s visit also follows the recent deportation of 104 Indian migrants by the US, with further repatriations reportedly under consideration.
