The exercise is aimed at demonstrating PM Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) in the defence sector, and encouraging the military leadership to adopt India-specific and geography-specific tactics and strategies. The exercise will also test the security and reliability of indigenous communication systems and networks against enemy cyberattacks.
The exercise will feature Tejas fighter jets, K-9 artillery guns, indigenous drones, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers and short-range missiles, among other homegrown platforms. The exercise will also focus on enhancing the synergy and coordination among the three services, which often tend to operate in isolation.
PM Modi’s visit to Pokhran comes a day before the notification of the 2024 General Elections, in which he is seeking a third term in office. The exercise is expected to boost his image as a strong leader who is committed to making India a self-reliant and powerful nation in the defence arena.
