JAMMU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate significant railway projects today, including the newly established Jammu Railway Division and the Charlapalli Terminal Station in Telangana.

The launch ceremony will be attended by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, and senior officials from civil, police, and railway administrations at the Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

The Jammu Railway Division, headquartered in Jammu, has been created by restructuring the Firozpur Railway Division.

Covering 742.1 kilometres, it includes key sections like Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla, Bhogpur-Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala-Pathankot, and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar.

This new division will boost regional connectivity, foster economic growth, and create job opportunities, addressing long-standing local demands.

“This new division will stimulate infrastructure development, enhance tourism, and support socio-economic progress. A Detailed Project Report will soon be submitted to the Railway Board for finalizing its jurisdiction,” said Additional Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Kumar Singh.

Currently, Jammu falls under the Firozpur Division of the Northern Railway. The new division marks a significant milestone ahead of the much-anticipated New Delhi-Srinagar direct train service, set to launch later this month following safety inspections of the Katra-Reasi section by the Railway Safety Commissioner on January 7-8, 2025.

In Telangana, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Charlapalli Terminal Station, developed at a cost of ₹413 crore in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The eco-friendly facility will ease congestion at existing terminals like Secunderabad and Hyderabad, providing modern passenger amenities.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division building in Odisha, part of the East Coast Railway zone. This division aims to improve rail connectivity across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and nearby regions, driving overall development.
