NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, March 18, speaking about the grand success of the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.

He described it as a powerful reflection of Indiaโ€™s unity, tradition, and cultural strength.

โ€œI extend my salutations to the millions of countrymen whose contributions made the Mahakumbh a grand success,โ€ PM Modi said. He praised the government, society, and dedicated workers who ensured the eventโ€™s smooth organization. The Prime Minister also thanked the people of Uttar Pradesh, especially the citizens of Prayagraj, for their efforts.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 was held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025. The event occurs every 12 years.

PM Modi drew a parallel between the sacred Gangaโ€™s descent to Earth and the effort behind organizing the Mahakumbh. He said the event was a true reflection of his vision of โ€œSabka Prayas.โ€

โ€œThe entire world witnessed the vastness of Bharat through the Mahakumbh,โ€ he remarked. PM Modi called it a โ€œpeopleโ€™s event,โ€ inspired by the devotion and dedication of the masses. He said the event awakened Indiaโ€™s national consciousness, inspiring citizens to strive for new goals.

Reflecting on Indiaโ€™s cultural journey, PM Modi recalled historical moments such as the Bhakti movement, Swami Vivekanandaโ€™s Chicago speech, and milestones from the freedom struggle. He described the Prayagraj Mahakumbh as another defining moment that showed the strength of an awakened nation.

PM Modi shared his experience in Mauritius, where he offered sacred water from the Triveni Sangam at the Ganga pond during the Mahakumbh. โ€œThe atmosphere of devotion and celebration was remarkable,โ€ he said.

He praised the youth of India for reconnecting with their heritage, faith, and traditions. โ€œWhen a society takes pride in its heritage, we witness grand and inspiring moments like the Mahakumbh,โ€ PM Modi stated.

PM Modi called the Mahakumbh a powerful symbol of unity. โ€œPeople from every region came together as one. They embraced the spirit of โ€˜เคตเคฏเคฎโ€™ (We) instead of โ€˜เคฎเฅˆเค‚โ€™ (I),โ€ he said. He added that this collective spirit strengthened Indiaโ€™s unity.

He also proposed expanding the tradition of โ€˜Nadi Utsavโ€™ (River Festivals) to promote river cleanliness and highlight their importance.

โ€œThe nectar of wisdom from the Mahakumbh will serve as a strong foundation for our national resolutions,โ€ PM Modi said. He concluded by expressing gratitude to all those involved in making the Mahakumbh a memorable success.

The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela witnessed an unprecedented turnout, with reports indicating that over 660 million (66 crores) cumulative visits occurred over the 45-day period. However, itโ€™s crucial to note that these figures represent cumulative attendance, accounting for repeat visitors rather than unique individuals.
