PM Modi Appeals SoftBank For Hard Investment

TOKYO: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated SoftBank Corporation’s significant contribution, especially in the startup sector in India during a meeting with its founder and CEO Masayoshi Son on Monday in Tokyo.

PM Modi and Son also discussed SoftBank’s future participation in India in key areas such as technology, energy and finance.

The 65-year-old business magnet’s investment firm SoftBank has invested about USD 14 billion in several sectors in India. Last year, the firm invested USD 3 billion into the Indian market.

PM Modi affirmed that various reforms are being undertaken to enable ease of doing business in India. The Indian side placed a proposal to the Japanese investment firm to enhance its investments in India.

SoftBank has pumped money into the startups that have generated employment of more than one million. The investment giant has financed Indian household names ranging from financial and e-retail system Paytm to hospitality services app Oyo.
