MOTIHARI: In a major breakthrough, the Bihar Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have arrested the master trainer of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), Yakub alias Sultan Usman Khan, in Bihar’s Motihari.

The arrest, which took place during a joint operation conducted by the Patna ATS and Eastern Champaran police on Tuesday night, marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

After an extensive search spanning several months, sleuths finally located Yakub in the Bansghat Gawandara area of Ward No. 20 in Chakia area from where he was nabbed.

Yakub came into the limelight four years ago when a video of him conducting training at Gandhi Maidan in Chakia went viral, drawing attention to the presence of the PFI in the area. Since then, authorities have been relentless in their efforts to track down the master trainer.

This successful arrest follows the capture of Atahar and Jallaluddin in Fulwari Sharif, Patna, last year, when a terrorist training module of the PFI was busted. These arrests have provided valuable leads to the active network of the PFI in the Eastern Champaran district.

The NIA has been actively conducting raids in Chakia, targeting people with suspected links to the banned extremist Islamic outfit. With Yakub in custody, investigators are hopeful of obtaining vital information about the group’s operations and activities in the region.

Interrogations are now underway, and authorities are exploring hidden locations based on the intelligence gathered from Yakub.

It is worth noting that in September last year, the Central government imposed a ban on the PFI and its affiliated organizations for a period of five years by declaring it an “unlawful association”.

Yakub is fond of flaunting weapons and his skills on social media. In a viral video, the young man can be seen posing for the camera as he oversees a bunch of youths training in the background. In other frames, he can be seen brandishing guns and swords.
