PATNA: Days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered a case in the suspected terrorist module of PFI in Patna’s Phulwari Sharief, the anti-terror probe agency on Thursday carried out searches at several locations in Bihar.

A senior NIA official related to the probe told The New Indian, “Multiple teams of NIA are carrying out searches in Bihar’s Darbhanga, Motihari and Nalanda districts on the premises of some PFI members.”

The NIA team started its searches in the early morning on the premises of arrested accused Nuruddin Jangi in Darbhanga. Jangi, an Advocate by profession, was arrested from Lucknow by the UP STF.

A six-member team of NIA reached the premises of Jangi in Darbhanga and carried out searches at his premises and also questioned his family members.

The NIA team also questioned Mustkim, son of one of the suspects in the case Mohammad Zakir, and Sanaullah aka Aaqib, another resident of the same area.

In Motihari, the NIA team carried out searches at the premises of Riyaz Maroof aka Bablu in the Chakia area. According to NIA sources, Maroof is one of the master trainers of the group.

The NIA team also carried out searches in Nalanda’s Par Katra area on the premises of one Asgar Ali.

The NIA on July 23 registered a case on the orders of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the Popular Front of India (PFI) terror module case.

The development came days after the Bihar Police arrested five-member of the Popular Front of India (PFI), who were allegedly part of a module that sought to target those “who make adverse and objectionable” comments against Islam.

The NIA had registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Earlier this month, the Patna Police arrested Athar Parvez, who was associated with the Ghazwa-e-Hind group and had also created two WhatsApp groups with his Pakistan mobile number; Mohammad Jallauddin, a retired policeman from Jharkhand; Arman Malik; and Marguv Ahmad Danish, who was allegedly part of Pakistan-based radical groups from Phulwari Sharif area.

According to Patna Police officials, Danish was in continuous touch with one Pakistan man named Faizan. It said that Danish had worked in Dubai from 2006-2020.

With the arrests, the police had busted a terror module which planned to make India an Islamic nation by 2047. There was also a plot to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit on July 12.
