Rs 21-Cr Cash: AIIMS Report Busts Partha Chatterjee’s Lie On Fresh Illness

KOLKATA: The medical report prepared by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar has taken a direct swipe at the tainted Mamata government minister Partha Chatterjee, saying the medical examination done on him did not yield any indication or signs of fresh ailment in him, thereby ruling out any stay or treatment for him.

“After detailed history taking, clinical evaluation and relevant investigations the committee is of the opinion that Mr Partha Chatterjee has been suffering from multiple chronic illnesses for a long time. Whatever present complaints that he is having currently are attributed to his chronic illness and no active intervention is required at present. However, he is advised to continue treatment for his chronic illness and requires periodic evaluation and optimisation of treatment,” the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar report, a copy of which has been accessed by The New Indian.

The report was prepared leading doctors of cardiology, endocrinology, and nephrology.  They are Dr Prasanta Mahapatra, professor and head, department of pulmonary medicine and critical care; Dr Ramchandra Barik, associate professor, department of cardiology; Dr Kishore Behera, associate professor, department of endocrinology and Dr Sandip Panda, associate professor, department of nephrology.

Presenting the medical reports to the Calcutta high court, the ED said that Chatterjee is “taking advantage” of his position to stay in a state-run hospital. “He is fit and can be taken into custody,” the ED said.

“There is nothing wrong with medical reports. He was taking advantage of his position to stay in a state-run hospital,” the ED told the court.

On Sunday evening, the Calcutta HC had directed the ED to take Chatterjee to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar by air ambulance after he complained of health issues.

The 69-year-old was admitted to state-run Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) hospital in the cardiology department at cabin 1 after the minister claimed chest pain. At first, he was admitted to ICCU and later shifted to a cabin.

However, ED’s Public Prosecutor, Abhijit Bhadra had told The New Indian, “They passed a wrong order yesterday of SSKM without our hearing. How can they just pass the order just like that?”

Some of Chatterjee’s key complaints, based on which he was admitted to the SSKM Hospital, included mild breathlessness on exertion for many years, swelling of lower limbs for many years and head reeling for the past few days.

Chatterjee’s medical report suggests he has a history of diabetes, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.

The AIIMS, Bhubaneswar medical report also stated that though Chatterjee is obese, he was conscious, well oriented and afebrile (not feverish at all) during the examination. He also doesn’t have any neurological problems.

Chatterjee was arrested on July 23 after raids were conducted on the premises of his close aide Arpita Mukherjee. ED had seized Rs 20 crore in cash in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam in the state.

The order by AIIMS has now put the onus back on the Mamata government and Chatterjee if there are more worms in the can.
