Pakistan’s frustration: Reason behind rising terror attacks in Jammu

NEW DELHI: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who also serves as the party’s In-Charge for J&K and Ladakh, stated on June 14 that Pakistan’s ISI is unsettled by the peaceful conduct of the Lok Sabha elections in J&K. He added that in response to this frustration, Pakistani agencies have infiltrated terrorists to disrupt peace in the region.

Over the recent days, terrorists have carried out attacks in four different locations in Jammu & Kashmir spanning Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts. These incidents have claimed the lives of nine individuals, including seven pilgrims and one CRPF jawan. Moreover, seven security personnel and civilians were injured.

Chugh also highlighted a shift in terrorist activities towards Jammu over the past three years. He attributed this change to successful Army operations that have limited terrorist operations in the Kashmir Valley. Chugh emphasized that these operations have significantly weakened terrorist networks in Kashmir, which has frustrated Pakistan.

In an exclusive conversation with The New Indian, DGP of Jammu &Kashmir RR Swain also said that because of the diversity and territory structure, terrorists are now targeting Jammu to create communal dispute. However they are working to catch terrorists and enemy agents with the help of security forces and local people.

Chugh also assured that security forces are actively collaborating to address the emerging threat. “Police and security agencies are pooling resources to effectively counter foreign terrorists in the Jammu region,” he stated. He praised the local community for their support, citing the recent Hiranagar encounter where residents alerted authorities to the presence of two terrorists.

The BJP leader criticized Pakistan for its adverse reaction to positive developments in Kashmir. “Pakistan’s inability to accept progress and peace in Kashmir has led to attacks on civilians, which is condemnable,” he remarked. Chugh expressed confidence in the security forces’ strategy, asserting their commitment to eliminating remaining terrorists from Jammu, mirroring their success in Kashmir.

Drawing attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s firm stance, Chugh reiterated the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards terrorism. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, our capabilities have significantly strengthened, a fact not lost on our adversaries,” he added confidently.

Chugh’s remarks underscore ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region amidst escalating tensions and continued terrorist threats.
