JAMMU: In a breach of the ceasefire, Pakistan Rangers initiated unprovoked firing on Indian posts along the International Border in the Arnia sector of Jammu on Thursday night, as reported by the Border Security Forces (BSF).

A BSF Public Relations Officer (PRO) informed The New Indian that Indian troops were responding to the attack with a “befitting” retaliation.

During the firing exchange, one BSF soldier and three civilians sustained injuries. Sources indicated that the injured individuals were promptly transported to a government medical college in Jammu for medical attention.

The firing, initiated by Pakistani troops, commenced at approximately 8 pm, according to the Border Security Force (BSF). “The firing is still on,” they confirmed, noting that Pakistani Rangers had also fired mortar shells in the region.

The BSF said, “Tonight at about 2,000 hours, unprovoked firing started by Pak Rangers on BSF posts in the Arnia area, which is being befittingly retaliated by BSF troops.”

This incident closely follows a similar occurrence just last week, on October 17, when two BSF personnel sustained injuries due to unprovoked firing by the Pakistani Rangers in the Arnia sector.

Despite a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan established on February 25, 2021, with the aim of adhering strictly to all ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other sectors, there have been several instances of ceasefire violations in the region.
