Pakistan Dropping Drugs In India, BSF Shoots Down 3rd Drone

The drone was spotted in Chhana village of Amritsar, Punjab.

Border Security Forces shot down a drone carrying 2.5 kilogram of narcotics substance that entered India in Punjab’s Amritsar sector from the Pakistan side on the International Border in the late hours of Monday, October 17, 2022. The incident took place in Chhana village.

The quadcopter was suspected to be used for smuggling the narcotic substance to India. This is the third such bid by Pak to carry out narco-terrorism in the Indian territory within a span of four days.

On October 17, at about 8.27 pm, BSF troops of 183 Battalion of BSF deployed at the border heard a buzzing sound of a suspected flying object or drone entering from Pakistan into Indian territory in the area falling near Village – Chhana, District – Amritsar. “As per drill, the troops tried to intercept the suspected flying object by firing. Bullet hit the Drone due to which it fell down on the ground.  The whole area cordoned and Police & concerned sister agencies informed,” said BSF in its press statement.

During the initial search, BSF recovered one quadcopter (Make – DJI Matrice) and suspected narcotics wrapped in polybags (weight- around 2.5 kilogram).

On October 16, the BSF troops thwarted a similar kind of drone intrusion attempt by shooting down a quadcopter in the village Rania of Amritsar in Punjab. The drone was approximately 12 kg in weight which carried two kilogram of banned substances.

BSF said two propellers of the quadcopter also sustained damage due to firing by BSF troops.

On October 14, one quadcopter was shot down by BSF in Gurdaspur’s Ajanala sector of Punjab. BSF troops had to fire 11 Rounds of 5.56 MM from INSAS Rifle and 03 illumination bombs towards the drone.

Officials said it is a quadcopter which was carrying one nylon rope of approx. 300 metres with six reflector lights and one green colour strap. It was also found that one wing rod of this quadcopter was broken but hasn’t been recovered so far.

Earlier in July, a similar Pakistani drone infiltration bid was foiled after a drone was spotted flying along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The army and security personnel deployed at the LOC made it retreat by firing at it. It was said that the flying object had to return to the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir side.

In the past nine months, security forces have observed the illegal entry of 191 drones into Indian territory from neighbouring Pakistan.
