Pak-made medicines, food items recovered from Kathua encounter site

JAMMU: In the aftermath of the Kathua encounter, security forces have made substantial recoveries from the two terrorists who were neutralized late last night.

The recoveries include:

– Three magazines containing 30 rounds each

– One magazine containing 24 rounds

– 75 rounds of ammunition found in a separate polythene bag

– Three live grenades

Additionally, the following items were seized:

– Currency notes of Rs 500 denomination totaling Rs 2 lakh

– Eatables including Pakistan-made chocolates, dry channa, and stale chapatis

– Pakistan-made medicines and pain killer injections

– Two packs of A4 battery cells

– One handset with an antenna and two wires hanging from it

The presence of Pakistan-made items among the recovery’s points to the origin of the terrorists and underscores the continuing infiltration attempts. The discovery of currency, ammunition, and other supplies highlights the extensive preparations made by the terrorists for their operations.

Late last night, two terrorists who opened fire in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua were killed in an encounter. A paramilitary soldier also lost his life during the exchange of gunfire.

Two encounters that began overnight in Jammu continued into the morning. One occurred in Doda, where five soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) were injured in an attack on an army post.

Just two days before these incidents, a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi was attacked, leading to a crash into a gorge that resulted in nine fatalities.

Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, who is overseeing the anti-terror operations in Kathua, shared details earlier this morning.

Regarding the Doda incident, he said terrorists opened fire at a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in the Chattargala area late last night. An encounter between security forces and the terrorists is ongoing in the higher reaches.

Police reported that two terrorists were involved in the Kathua attack last evening. One was killed last night, and the second, armed with a US-made M4 carbine assault rifle, was killed this morning after being cornered in a forested area.

The terrorists had asked for water from several houses, raising villagers’ suspicions, and opened fire when some villagers raised an alarm, police said. One civilian was injured in the shooting. Mr. Jain denied reports that three people died in the Kathua attack, clarifying that only one civilian was injured.

“There are rumors that many people are injured and three are dead. But only one civilian was injured; all other information regarding hostages and deaths are rumors,” he stated.

The security personnel killed during the encounter was a member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

ADGP Jain also described the Kathua attack as a “fresh infiltration” and indirectly pointed to Pakistan. “It is our hostile neighbor who always tries to disrupt the peaceful environment in our country. This (Hiranagar terror attack) appears to be a fresh infiltration,” he said.

Jammu has been on high alert with these attacks occurring in areas previously considered free of terrorism.

Two days earlier, a bus on its way to the Shiv Khori cave temple was attacked in Reasi. The terrorists opened fire after the bus driver refused to deboard the passengers, causing the bus to lose control and fall into the gorge, according to the bus company’s manager. Nine people were killed and 33 injured in the incident, which was orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Hamza, officials said.
