Indian Rafale combat aircraft are set to participate in a multinational wargame codenamed Orion, which is being hosted by France. The war game will involve many of France’s NATO and other important allies.

Interestingly, this is the first time that Indian Rafales, brought from France, will participate in this exercise. The wargames are planned to be held from the third week of April 15 to May 5.

The IAF contingent will be comprised of four Rafale, two C-17, two IL-78, and 165 air warriors.

Orion is reportedly the largest ever multinational exercise being carried out by the French defence forces, which have involved their Army, Navy and Air Force along with their allies the US and UK.

The French Air Force will be taking part in the wargames with NATO and other allies with their Rafale and Mirage-2000 fighter aircraft. Over 7,000 NATO troops have reportedly taken part in the drill involving the land forces of their NATO allies.

The Indian Air Force has previously participated in wargames with foreign countries, including ones with the French Air Force in Jodhpur codenamed Desert Knight. Additionally, the Indian Air Force is also set to take part in Exercise CopeIndia from April 10 in Kalaikunda, West Bengal.

The Rafale aircraft are the latest fighters to have been inducted into the Indian Air Force and are considered to be the most potent in the entire Asian region. The 36 Rafales have been completely inducted and they have played a significant role in improving the country’s operational preparedness along both the borders with Pakistan and China.

The participation of Indian Rafales in multinational wargames such as Orion and their integration into such complex exercises demonstrate the increasing prowess of the Indian Air Force. It also highlights the growing importance of India in the international arena and its close ties with key allies such as France.

The participation of Indian Rafales in multinational wargames will not only help improve their capabilities but will also enhance the interoperability of Indian forces with their foreign counterparts.
