NEW DELHI: Members of the United India bloc think the Modi government has not revealed the full agenda of the special parliament session starting Monday and asserts that the real motive remains hidden.
Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have sought parliamentary transparency regarding the five-day special session.
Earlier this week, the government said that the session has been convened to discuss parliament’s journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha.
The agenda includes The Post Office Bill 2023, The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the bill regarding the appointment and conditions of service for the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners (appointment, conditions of service, terms of office) Bill, 2023.
However, constituents of INDIA suspect that some agenda items have been kept under wraps and that unexpected decisions may be made once the session commences.
Speaking to The New Indian, TMC Lok Sabha MP Sougata Roy said, “They have circulated only a portion of the agenda. However, this cannot be the entire agenda. So far, the government has not disclosed the full agenda.”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh commented, “After Sonia Gandhi’s letter to the Prime Minister, the Modi government released the agenda for the special session. The items on the released agenda do not seem to hold significant importance and could have been deferred to the winter session. It appears they were intentionally concealed until the last minute.”
In the meantime, both Congress and BJP have issued whips to ensure the presence of their members in parliament for all five days of the special session.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi has called for an all-party meeting on Sunday. “In preparation for the parliamentary session starting on the 18th of this month, an all-party floor leaders’ meeting has been scheduled for the 17th at 4:30 PM. Invitations for this meeting have been sent to concerned leaders via email,” he said.
It is expected that the special session will be held at the new Parliament building.
