OPPO India Plans To Invest ₹47Cr To Boost Smartphone Industry

NEW DELHI: To enable SMEs and MSMEs to expand their operations and boost the local supply chain for a healthy smartphone ecosystem in India, OPPO India today announced the introduction of the Vihaan Project. OPPO India will invest worth ₹47.60 crores through this initiative over the following five years.

According to a recent research study, OPPO India has already made significant investments to improve the nation’s manufacturing capabilities, making OPPO India a frontrunner in “Make in India” Smartphone sales with a 22 per cent Y-o-Y increase in Q1 2022.

To increase the country’s capacity for production, OPPO India has already made significant investments. OPPO India has set up a “tremendous manufacturing centre” in Greater Noida with a capital of ₹2400 crores that produces one smartphone every three seconds.

Reiterating OPPO India’s commitment to India, Vivek Vasishtha, vice-president, Public Affairs, OPPO India said, “This would facilitate OPPO India in expanding the export capacity to USD 5 billion over the next five years. In tandem with the Government’s vision of an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, OPPO India will be strongly supporting local manufacturing and exports, SMEs and MSMEs, cutting-edge technologies, and skill development in the sector through the ‘Vihaan’ program.”

In the coming five years, OPPO India said it wanted to concentrate on launching the development of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, etc. to speed up product development from India, empowering and mentoring technology start-ups from beginning to end, and exploring partnerships with educational institutions to foster an innovation culture.

Through the Vihaan initiative, OPPO India seeks to develop the local supply chain for a strong smartphone ecosystem in India by collaborating with additional regional vendors.

With the help of the government, business, and industry, OPPO India has pushed for the establishment of 30 Tier-1 suppliers in India. They have helped the growth of the electronics sector and elevated India’s standing in the global value chains by employing tens of thousands of local Indians.

OPPO India has established a substantial network of more than 1000 distributors since its inception. By making these efforts, OPPO India will strengthen its connections with the network, which will fuel its local growth and help it broaden its worldwide reach through OPPO India’s export business.

Through cutting-edge technology-focused laboratories, OPPO’s R&D centre in Hyderabad, established in 2018, is leading research and patent filing in 5G, photography, and power & performance. India has the company’s largest production and R&D facilities outside of China.
