One Month Old Baby Beats COVID; Discharged From Hospital

NEW DELHI: A one month old COVID positive baby, admitted to Moolchand hospital in Delhi, has been discharged after recovering from the infection.

The infant was brought with an ear infection and tested positive on admission. The hospital tweeted  on January 14 that

“Covis-19 Update: One month old baby, came with ear infection and tested positive on admission. Getting discharged with full recovery. Well taken care of by the Neontalogists and NICU staff in COVID isolation unit.

 

Dr. Preeti chadda, consultant, department of Neonatology & Pediatrics, Moolchand Hospital ssid that “I have seen 3-5 babies in a week plus 2-3 children daily with such symptoms in the last 10-15 days. Since they present with mild symptoms, they are advised treatment in home isolation. Hospitalization is not required in most cases.”

This one month old baby came with complaints of excessive irritability for 2 days and decreased feed for 1 day. On examination the baby was febrile, irritable with discharge from right ear. Admission was planned for further treatment and care. As per pre-admission policy, a rapid antigen test for COVID was done and it came positive.

The infant was monitored for four days and was discharged only after improvement in his health was seen.

Delhi is reporting a surge in covid cases with spread of the omicron variant. Infections among children have also gone up. The capital recorded 20,718 new cases and 30 deaths on January 15. The Number of active cases went up to 93,407, with the positivity rate is 30.64%.
