One Died, Six Injured In Delhi Building Collapse

NEW DELHI: One person was dead and six others injured after a portion of a two-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad area on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at about 5 am. Police and personnel from Delhi Fire Service (DFS) rushed to the spot. Officers from the nearby police stations and traffic police officials also reached the spot to help in the rescue operation.

“It was found that the roof of a room located on the second floor of the said house has collapsed and few persons were trapped in the rubble,” said a police officer. Two families were living in the building, the officer said.

At least seven persons were taken out and were rushed to the hospital. Out of them, one Sufiyan was trapped in the rubble. He was rescued after a lot of effort and shifted to the hospital, where he has been declared as brought dead.

The family was living in the said building as a tenant for four years. The Head of the family Suleiman is engaged in the business of scrap, police said.

The building was constructed about 18 years ago. The owner of the building is identified as Shamim Ahmad and necessary legal action is being taken.
