As the Uttar Pradesh Police searched for him in every nook and corner, jailed mafia don Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad comfortably roamed around in the alleys of the Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi for 13 days.

The matter came to the fore when the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested three persons – Khalid, Jeeshan and Javed – in connection with a case of firearm smuggling in Delhi.

Delhi police said, based on a secret input, on March 28, Khalid and Jeeshan were arrested from Sheikh Sarai. Police also recovered two weapons along with live cartridges from the duo. Later, one more person, Javed, was arrested in the same case.

During the course of the investigation, Khalid and Jeeshan disclosed that they had also provided shelter to Asad Ahmed and Ghulam, who are wanted by UP police in connection with Umesh Pal’s murder in Prayagraj on February 24.

Asad Ahmed and Ghulam are key accused in the daylight murder case of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal.

Atiq’s men allegedly gunned down Umesh when he returned to his home after appearing before the Allahabad High Court in the Raju Pal murder case on February 24.

Sources in the Delhi Police said that Asad had come to Delhi during his run and stayed in Sangam Vihar for 13 days. This house is stated to belong to a close associate.

Now, UP STF has picked up Khalid and Jeeshan, who allegedly helped Asad dodge police and provided accommodations to him during his run.

One of the arrested men allegedly provided financial help to Asad as well. He also visited Meerut and brought some cash. The trio were being interrogated, said the sources.

Asad was among the shooters who led the attacking party. The police said that he could be easily seen opening fire at Umesh Pal. The UP Police have announced ₹5 lakh in rewards for the person who gives information leading to his arrest.

Over a dozen persons have been arrested and two of the conspirators and attackers have been gunned down by the UP Police during the last month.

The UP Police also announced ₹25,000 reward for Atiq’s wife, Shaista Parveen, for her alleged involvement in the murder conspiracy of Umesh Pal.
