Married Hindu women observed a day-long fast and prayed for the long life of their husband on the occasion of the Karwa Chauth festival in different parts of India on Thursday.

Social media platforms are flooded with photos and videos of couples celebrating the festival together.

While most men celebrated the festival of love, togetherness and mutual bond with one woman, Rajasthan BJP leader Arjun Lal Meena stood out as an exception.

Meena, a member of parliament from Rajasthan’s Udaipur, is husband to two women Meenakshi and Rajkumari – both sisters. While owns a cooking gas distribution agency, Rajkumari is a teacher.

The 58-year-old leader is among the 25 BJP MPs from Rajasthan. Meena was elected from the Udaipur constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Meena is a member of the consultative committee under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Earlier, he was a member of the committee on the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

Before being elected to Lok Sabha for the first time in 2014, Meena was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

He is known as one of the best-performing MPs in Lok Sabha. His attendance in the house stands at 86 per cent.

Apart from a master’s degree in commerce and law, Meena has also completed B.Ed.

In his constituency, he is known as a leader who raises important public issues in the parliament. He has been strongly demanding a bench of the Rajasthan high court in Udaipur and the inclusion of the city into the list of B2 category of cities. He has also been a strong advocate of efforts to preserve and conserve the lakes of Udaipur city.

In the 2014 general elections, he defeated his cousin Raghubir Meena who contested on a Congress ticket.

Despite being a strong voice of Rajasthan, Meena prefers to maintain a law profile. He is considered close to state strongwoman and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
