Himachal Teacher’s Plaint Forces Rashtrapati Bhawan Action Against Nudity

SHIMLA: Following a complaint by a teacher from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, the Rashtrapati Bhawan has asked the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry to launch a crackdown to check nudity on social media.

Vijay Heer had sent a petition complaint to the Rashtrapati Bhawan, which took it seriously and forwarded it for action to Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s financial adviser PK Abdul Karim. In the complaint, Heer appealed to the President to take cognisance of social media reels that promoted nudity and other videos that were meant to show human relations in poor light. The teacher appealed that such videos and reels should be automatically blocked through some software.

Heer had also appealed to the Chief Justice of India, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister (who happens to be Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur) and other authorities concerned to intervene in the matter.

In the complaint, it was mentioned that due to lack of appropriate checks and balances, innocent children were becoming victims of online dating. The teacher argued that every child aged 10 to 12 years had an account on social media apps, including Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, and instead of focusing on their careers, the children were getting attracted towards sleazy content. Despite knowing that the child was slipping towards bad activities, the near and dear ones were unable to do anything, the complaint mentioned.

“The situation is getting very serious and out of control. A latest report compiled by telecom companies shows that the mobile data is mostly used by people to watch porn. The sleazy content broadcast on social media is leaving a bad impression on the minds of people, especially children. In such circumstances, censorship is a must to keep intact Indian social values. Action must be initiated under Section 292 of the IPC,” Heer demanded.
