NEW DELHI: Harnessing defence self-reliance, the Ordnance Equipment Factory (OEF), Hazratpur, has received the Transfer of Technology (ToT) for the Su-30 aircraftโ€™s Brake Parachute system from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The formal handover took place at the Aero India 2025 exhibition in Bengaluru, where Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth presented the technology to Amit Singh, General Manager of OEF Hazratpur.  

 

 

The event, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), DRDO, and Indian Air Force (IAF). The Brake Parachute is a crucial safety component of the Su-30 fighter jet, ensuring controlled deceleration during landings, especially on short runways or under challenging conditions.

Key Features of the Su-30 Brake Parachute:

  • High-Durability Fabric: Made from advanced, heat-resistant materials capable of withstanding extreme aerodynamic forces.
  • Optimized Drag System: Ensures controlled deceleration, minimizing runway length requirements.
  • Quick Deployment & Retraction: Designed for immediate response upon activation and fast repacking for subsequent use.
  • All-Weather Functionality: Reliable performance in diverse environmental conditions, including wet and icy runways.  

Strengthening Defence Indigenisation

 

OEF Hazratpur has been at the forefront of designing and manufacturing technical parachutes and aerial delivery systems for the armed forces. With this ToT, the factory is set to produce indigenous Brake Parachutes for the IAFโ€™s Su-30 fleet, operating with cost-effective, homegrown solutions while reducing vulnerabilities associated with foreign procurement.

 

Hailing the development, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth stated that this technology transfer aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, furthering Indiaโ€™s commitment to self-sufficiency in defence production. He commended OEF Hazratpur for its contributions to enhancing Indiaโ€™s military preparedness.
