Odisha Government Announces Historic Sponsorship for Indian National Kho Kho Te
NEW DELHI: In a historic move, the Government of Odisha has announced a groundbreaking three-year sponsorship deal for the Indian National Kho Kho team, marking a major milestone for the sport in India. The sponsorship, worth Rs 15 crore, is set to run from January 2025 to December 2027, with the state committing ₹5 crore annually. The funds will be provided through the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), underscoring the state’s commitment to promoting indigenous sports.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement today, highlighting the significant role that sports like Kho Kho play in preserving India’s cultural heritage. “This is a watershed moment for Kho Kho in India. By supporting our indigenous sports, we are not only preserving our cultural heritage but also creating new opportunities for our athletes,” said Majhi. He further emphasized that Odisha’s previous success in supporting Indian hockey has set the foundation for a similar transformation in Kho Kho.

The partnership will provide the Indian Kho Kho team with the necessary resources for development, including enhanced training facilities and support for participation in both national and international competitions. Sudhanshu Mittal, President of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), expressed his gratitude for the state’s support, calling it a turning point for the sport. “Odisha’s commitment to Kho Kho represents a significant moment in the history of the sport. This sponsorship will enable us to develop the next generation of top athletes and promote Kho Kho on the global stage,” Mittal said.
