NSUI has appealed to PM Narendra Modi to name a DU college and a central university after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh
NEW DELHI: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to rename Delhi University’s Veer Savarkar College after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 at AIIMS, New Delhi.
In the letter, the NSUI stated, “As you prepare to inaugurate a college named after Veer Savarkar under the University of Delhi, we strongly demand that this institution be dedicated to Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. His recent demise has created a deep void, and the most appropriate tribute to his legacy would be to name premier educational institutions in his honor.”

Including his life journey in academic curricula.
“His legacy as a scholar, economist, and public servant embodies resilience, merit, and dedication to public welfare. Naming institutions after him will inspire generations and honor his transformative vision,” Choudhary added.

Recalling Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, the letter emphasized his pivotal role in India’s economic liberalization and commitment to equitable development.
“Dr. Singh’s passing has left a deep void. The most fitting tribute to his legacy would be dedicating premier educational institutions in his name,” Choudhary noted.
The NSUI urged the government to act promptly to recognize Dr. Singh’s unparalleled contributions to the nation, asserting that such initiatives would serve as a lasting tribute to his vision and impact.
