For years, securing tickets for key national day celebrations has been a tedious task. Not anymore! The Central government has launched a portal to distribute passes for such mega events.

On Friday, minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt unveiled a portal to manage invitations for Independence Day and Republic Day celebration events.

As part of the government’s e-governance initiative, the invitation management portal (www.aamantran.mod.gov.in) will be used to extend e-invitations to dignitaries/guests and the online sale of tickets to the general public.

“The portal provides the facility for the issue of online passes to the dignitaries and their guests along with the provision for the general public to purchase the tickets online irrespective of the geographical location,” said the ministry of defence.

Rechristened as Aamantran, the portal will make the entire process user-friendly, and environment-friendly and bridge the gap between the government and the common people.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Bhatt termed the portal as another milestone in the ‘Digital India’ initiative and a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concept of an e-governance model which is based on easy, effective, economical and eco-friendly governance.

“The government is committed to ensuring ease of living to every citizen,” he said, adding that ‘Digital India’ and ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ are bringing government and people together.

He said that the new invitation system will save a great amount of paper used in printing.

QR code-based authentication for enhanced security and digital delivery of passes/tickets through emails/SMS are among the key features of the Aamantran portal. Tickets purchased on the portal will be non-cancellable and non-transferable.

In addition to extending e-invitations, the ministry will also set up counters for the purchase of tickets at several locations. For Republic Day celebrations this year, people can buy tickets from Sena Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, Jantar Mantar, Pragati Maidan, and Parliament House from January 18.
