Nothing Political: Bengal CM Meets Assam CM On Guv’s Invitation

Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: Chief Ministers of Bengal and Assam, two stalwarts from their respective political parties as well as their respective states, met at Darjeeling Governor House on Wednesday.

The meeting, which came with an invitation from Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar, between Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma set the rumour mills buzzing.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is also on a scheduled visit to Darjeeling, was also present in the ‘nothing political’ meeting which lasted for more than two hours.

TMC sources told The New Indian that no political talks were held, and neither nothing was discussed in the upcoming Presidential election.

Himanta Biswa Sharma gifted Mamata Banerjee Gamosa, the traditional scarf from Assam, whereas Banerjee gifted him Bengal’s traditional shawl called ‘Uttoriyo’.

Banerjee also attended the swearing-in programme of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) members but said she would not be attending the oath-taking ceremony.
