Chadha has threatened media outlet with legal action for misreporting.
New Delhi: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has denied media reports claiming he has been accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor policy case.
Earlier, some media reports mentioned that the young RS MP’s name finds mention in the supplementary chargesheet filed by the agency in course of its probe into the money laundering angle of the alleged corruption.
According to those reports, the chargesheet mentions Chadha as part of a meeting held at former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s residence.
Strongly denying the reports, Chadha said, “News articles/reportage stating that I have been named as an accused in a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate are factually wrong, incorrect and appears to be part of a malicious propaganda to harm my reputation and credibility.”
“I have not been named as an accused or even a suspect or a witness in any of the complaints filed by the enforcement directorate. There are no allegations whatsoever against me in the said complaints.”
He also requested media outlets to clarify the issue and refrain from publishing incorrect information, lest he would be forced to take legal action.
The Delhi liquor policy case alleges that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 favored certain liquor dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it. The ED has filed a supplementary chargesheet in the case and has named several high-profile individuals, including chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia.
The chargesheet alleges that Kejriwal and Sisodia provided immunity to Vijay Nair so he could engage in illegal activities while framing and implementing the policy.
The chargesheet also alleges that BRS leader K Kavitha met Sameer Mahendru, a liquor trader who was among the accused in the case, at her residence in Hyderabad in 2022. It said the meeting was attended by others accused in the case, including businessmen Sarath Chandra Reddy and Abhishek Boinpally, and Kavitha’s alleged frontman Arun Pillai. All of them have been arrested in connection with the case.
The ED further alleges that Arun Pillai and Amandeep Dhall, another accused, destroyed digital evidence on a large scale. It said the accused have destroyed a huge number of phones and they could not be recovered during the agency’s searches.
