NOIDA — In a commendable display of efficiency, the Noida Police swiftly arrested a man accused of hacking the official Twitter handle of the District Magistrate (DM) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, identified as Sohan Singh, was apprehended from Delhi’s Buradi area, putting an end to the digital mischief that had caused a stir.

The incident came to light when a controversial tweet surfaced from the DM’s handle, directly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The tweet ignited outrage, with many questioning the neutrality of the bureaucracy in political matters. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet shared a clip of her conversation with historian Ashok Pandey, only to receive an objectionable response from the DM’s account. Shrinet expressed her dismay, emphasizing, “This is the DM of Noida, responsible for the entire district. See his language and thoughts about the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi.”

The controversy didn’t stop there. Other party leaders, including Pawan Khera, weighed in, questioning the potential politicization of civil services. Khera wondered aloud, “Has the BJP government ordered IAS officers to make such political comments?”

However, the Gautam Buddh Nagar DM promptly issued a clarification, asserting that the tweet was not their doing. Their handle had been misused, they explained. An FIR was lodged, and the cyber cell swung into action, determined to trace the source of the unauthorized tweet.

The Noida Police’s cyber sleuths worked tirelessly, following the digital breadcrumbs left by the hacker. Their efforts bore fruit when they successfully traced the phone used to post the controversial tweet. Sohan Singh, the alleged perpetrator, was taken into custody, ending his brief stint as a digital saboteur.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of official social media accounts. As government agencies and public figures increasingly rely on digital platforms for communication, safeguarding these channels becomes paramount. The swift action by the Noida Police demonstrates their commitment to ensuring accountability and maintaining the integrity of official online platforms.

As the investigation continues, officials are reviewing security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. The DM’s handle is now back under their control, and the district can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that justice has been served in the virtual realm.
