NEW DELHI: Ending all speculations, Congress will not nominate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for Rajya Sabha. The Congress on Sunday released the list of party candidates for Rajya Sabha.
The list, announced by Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, includes the names of former finance minister P Chidambaram, former Union ministers Jairam Ramesh and Ajay Maken among others.
Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel had renewed demand for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s candidature. On earlier occasions too, the party had turned down the proposal for Priyanka’s nomination.
The party has named Chidambaram from Tamil Nadu, while Maken has been named from Haryana. Congress had fielded Ranjeet Ranjan and Rajeev Shukla from Chhattisgarh while it nominated party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik and Pramod Tiwari from Rajasthan.
The Congress has also fielded Ramesh from Karnataka and Vivek Tankha from Madhya Pradesh.
In a surprise, Congress has fielded Imran Pratapgarhi as the party candidate from Maharashtra.
However, the party has not fielded senior party leader and former Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and his deputy Anand Sharma for Rajya Sabha this time.
